  • Welcome!

    I'm so happy you're here!

I'm Lauren, and at my roots, I'm a Southern girl with lots of love for my hometown, big cups of coffee, family breakfasts on Saturday morning, and college football. My family has lived all over the Southeast, but I was born in and have spent the majority of my life in North Carolina, and it's a place I'm so proud to call home. Currently, my business is based in Raleigh, NC, but I'll travel just about anywhere!

You'll get to know me best by wandering through these pages of photographs, but I'll get to know you best over coffee or (my personal favorite) pie! Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions, or even if you just want to say hello. I can't wait to meet you!

Kathryn |

Y’all probably remember Kathryn both from this post about her incredible jewelry skills and this post about the brand new Southern clothing company, Oak City Ties, she helped start this spring.  Well, as if this talented lady needed to add one more amazing venture to her resume, she’s now started a style blog of her very own based on well-made and designer pieces that have been passed down to her.  Her mom, Nancy, had quite the collection of clothing when she was Kathryn’s age (and still does!), and Kathryn has been able to seamlessly incorporate them into her own wardrobe in ways most people have never thought of!  She’s even used men’s button-downs and other unique pieces to put together outfits that are always sophisticated, clean, and most of all, very fitting of the Southern lady she is!

A few weeks ago, we met to photograph some outfits she’ll be debuting over the next few posts,  and she’s introducing the very first one today!  So, here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come, and be sure to pop in to whenever you get the chance.  Leave her some love!

Kathryn - Thank you for putting together this post, Lauren. I really appreciate you taking photos for me!

Rachel Smithson Wood | Bridals

It’s really hard to imagine a more laid back and easygoing bride than Rachel.  She’s effortlessly beautiful, and her wedding day this past Saturday couldn’t have gone smoother.  It was thoughtfully and lovingly planned, and mostly, it was full of little moments that really paid tribute to what a wedding is all about – celebrating family, friends, love, and the amazing work the Lord has done in the couple’s lives.

Rachel and I became fast friends after we spoke about working together on her wedding day last year, and it was just as much of an honor to see her marry Joe (the quintessential Southern gentleman who is just about as sentimental as they come) as a friend as it was to witness as a photographer.  I don’t often get emotional at weddings where I’m focused on a single mission, but this one was different from the moment the organ began playing the bridal march.  Today, it’s such an honor to share Rachel’s bridal portraits with you, which were taken back in March at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC.  The day was especially chilly (and even snowy!) for March, and we were all pretty cold, but Rachel pressed on like a pro and remained graceful as ever!  Special thanks to her Maid of Honor, Rebecca, for all her help in keeping us moving and keeping Rachel warm!

Rachel and Joe, I hope these are pictures you’re proud to pass down to your children and your children’s children, and most of all, that your graciousness, above all things, will be evident to them no matter how many years pass.  Congratulations, from the bottom of my heart.

Karen - The pictures are amazing. Her portrait made me cry in an empty reception hall. Thank you so much.

Kathryn Stell - These are beautiful! My favorites are the ones where she is surrounded by the many colorful plants, and the one with just the bride against a dramatic sky. Awesome!

Alex & Nathan | Engaged

One of the things I love most about photographing weddings and engagements is all the opportunities I have to TRAVEL!  Even though I spent a year and a half of my life in Washington, DC, and it’s more home than tourist destination to me, I love having an excuse to photograph the most beautiful parts of it without having to also constantly pull out a map.  And when Alex and Nathan agreed to do their engagement pictures at the Botanic Garden in DC, I knew I had hit the jackpot!

Both Alex and Nathan grew up in Maryland, and you can tell they are just as proud of it as anyone could be!  Nathan is a state trooper who has also served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and one of the things that impressed me most about him was his chivalry toward Alex and his courtesy to the police officers guarding the Capitol that morning.  It was clear the respect he has for his colleagues, and he is the perfect protector of Alex.  But, of course the thing that got me most was when he told me how much harder his second deployment was, since he and Alex had begun dating by then.  And because they became engaged before he finished his service to the military, this couple is more than ready to officially tie the knot!

For her part, Alex has the sweetest spirit and impeccable style.  She even brought two pairs of shoes so that she would be prepared for whatever I asked of her!  That’s definitely my kind of girl.  Their sweet, caring personalities just shine when they are near each other, and I can’t wait to help them finally celebrate their big day in just over a month!

Bekah | Graduation

Bekah and I are like peas and carrots.  All of my best friends have a beautiful sense of style all their own, but if I had to pick one who most closely resembles my own, it would be her!  Which actually comes in pretty handy come birthdays and Christmas, because I know I can just slap her monogram on anything and it’s guaranteed to be a hit!

Bekah is also my trivia friend, my Bachelor-watching friend, my Lilly Pulitzer friend, my Hanson friend, and my soon-to-be Ph.D. friend!  After lots of hard work, Bekah graduated this spring from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters degree, and without skipping a beat, she just jumped head-first into a doctorate!  I admire her incredible work ethic and heart for the Lord, but I’m also just really glad she’ll be around Wake Forest for the next three years!

Bekah, I’m so, so proud of you, and I love that these pictures capture your light-hearted spirit.  You are an enormous blessing to me and to my family, and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!

Kathryn - She likes trivia, Lilly, and Hanson, AND she’s a Phi Mu?! We need to hang out…

Wordy Wednesday | Spring

I don’t know about you, but this quote couldn’t be truer for me right now!  There are so many opportunities coming down the pike, both inside and outside this little business, and I’m just already overwhelmed with how grand and wonderful 2013 has been! The weekends have filled up quickly (which is the way I like it), and since grad school ended for the summer, I’m cherishing these freer evenings for things like submitting more pictures to blogs, catching up on editing and albums, and watching So You Think You Can Dance with my sister! I have big plans for this spring and summer, so I’m thrilled that they’re here!

Hope y’all are enjoying these beautiful days, and here’s to three straight weeks of shooting, shooting, shooting!
